Unlocking Creativity & Creating Visual Narratives (Mar 26-Apr 23)
Dates: March 26 - April 23, 2025
Meetings: Tuesdays, 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM CST (5 Sessions)

Are you ready to take your photography to the next level by overcoming the challenges you are currently facing while developing your perspective and approach to image-making? This five-week course is designed to help students unlock their creative potential and develop new skills while creating visual narratives through the medium of photography. Students will consider how images go beyond aesthetics and invite viewers to engage with the narratives they convey. Theoretical lectures and examples will be coupled with practical exercises enabling students to explore techniques, composition principles, and storytelling approaches. Students will receive constructive feedback on their assignments and will have the opportunity to share ideas during group discussions with the purpose of enhancing their abilities as storytellers.
Objectives:
Understand and harness the power of visual storytelling
Learn how to identify subjects and create compelling elements supporting a visual narrative
Experiment with using different perspectives and viewpoints in photography
Convey emotion and set the mood through the intentional use of color
Create an effective workflow using the right editing tools to build a cohesive visual narrative through sequencing and presentation
Prerequisites: None
Course Prep:
Students will be asked to submit a selection of existing images and to describe roadblocks they face in their photography practice.
