Mixed Media Photography Lab - Teens (Jun 16-20)
Dates: June 16 - 20, 2025 (no class on June 19)
Meetings: Monday - Wednesday, 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM CST (4 sessions)
Location: Houston Center for Photography
Cost: $245 Tuition + $20 Materials (HCP members can receive a 10% discount)

Do you feel limited by the images cameras can produce? Do you wish to expand your skills and capabilities to match your imagination and artistic vision? This dynamic, hands-on course invites young image-makers to embark on a creative journey exploring the world of mixed-media photography. Through a fusion of traditional and digital techniques, participants will explore collage, image printing, transfer methods, hand coloring, and image processing using leading software tools like Adobe Photoshop. With boundless creativity as our compass, students will push the boundaries of conventional photography, culminating in unique, expressive works of art that will enrich and diversify their portfolios.
Objectives:
Print your pictures at HCP’s state-of-the-art digital lab
Create collages using magazines and your own photos
Learn how to transfer photographic images onto diverse surfaces to create textured and layered compositions
Experiment with painting directly onto photographic prints, adding color, texture, and depth to your images, and explore the intersection of painting and photography
Foster your unique creativity and self-expression
Develop your personal portfolio
Prerequisites:
This class is limited to Teens between 14 and 18 years old. Students should be able to use their camera and/or smartphone to take photographs.
Course Prep:
For the first class, students should bring a selection of up to 5 pictures they have photographed as well as 1-2 magazines to be used in the artistic process.
