Danielle Villasana

Danielle Villasana is a photojournalist based in her hometown of Houston, Texas, whose work focuses on human rights, gender, displacement, and health throughout the Americas. Villasana’s long-term documentary projects have been supported by The Alexia Professional Grant, the National Geographic Society, Magnum Foundation, Women Photograph, and the International Women's Media Foundation. Her work has been included in solo and group exhibits and has been published in National Geographic, The New York Times, and the Washington Post, among other publications.

Villasana’s first photo book, "A Light Inside," chronicles the issues transgender women face in Peru, was published in 2018 by FotoEvidence and used as an educational tool, distributed free-of-charge to universities and health care centers in Lima. Villasana is driven by her strong beliefs in photographic education and community and is a co-founder of We, Women, on The Everyday Projects’ Community Team, and a Photo Bill of Rights co-author. She is also a member of Women Photograph, Diversify Photo, and Ayün Fotógrafas.
