Fine Art Printing (Feb 11-Mar 11)
Dates: February 11 - March 11, 2025
Meetings: Tuesdays, 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM CST (5 sessions)
Location: Houston Center for Photography
Cost: $480 Tuition + $30 Materials (HCP members can receive a 10% discount)

Skill Level: Intermediate

The Fine Art Printing course equips students with the knowledge and technical tools needed to create beautiful prints of their photographs. Participants will learn printing terminology and principles as they practice the digital printing workflow using Adobe Photoshop and/or Lightroom Classic. After printing several images, students will develop their skills and critical eye for print-making. As they complete the course, participants will gain the experience and know-how needed to produce high-quality prints on their own. Topics include color theory, color management, ICC profiles, paper finishes, color corrections, local adjustments, multi-iterations-based printing, and print handling among others.
Objectives:
Acquire the skills needed to operate HCP’s state-of-the-art printing and scanning equipment
Understand essential color theory including the RGB color wheel, gamut, and color profiles
Standardize your workflow for producing your fine art prints
Apply local adjustments to your pictures while fine-tuning your print
Experiment with different paper types/finishes and identify your preferred paper
Develop a critical eye for print-making allowing you to pre-visualize your desired results
Gain the experience required to feel confident printing your images
Prerequisites:
Lightroom I or Photoshop I or having an initial experience with either of these Adobe software. Students must be Mac OS proficient to use HCP’s Digital Lab Computers.

Students need to bring 5 high-resolution files (or RAW) of pictures they would like to print.
