Skill Level: Intermediate

In this intermediate class, students will become more deeply involved with the technical aspects of the medium, while at the same time beginning to develop their personal creative vision. Structured to offer a comprehensive knowledge of digital photography workflow, this class addresses everything from capture to process to print. Learn to use your camera creatively with a more in-depth discussion about various camera settings and their effects on an image. Explore your personal creativity while practicing main photographic genres. Practical exercises, assignments, and critiques will provide opportunities for hands-on application and constructive feedback to refine and develop your interests and skills. The works of leading photographers will be reviewed and discussed throughout the course.

Objectives:

  • Implement a digital photography workflow as a part of your practice

  • Organize and select your pictures effectively using Adobe Lightroom Classic

  • Process pictures using powerful tools resulting in stunning imagery

  • Explore various photographic genres and identify photographic passions

  • Capture powerful images while applying advanced technical and creative tools 

  • Expand your artistic background by discussing the works of many leading photographers

Prerequisites: 

Photography I or being comfortable using your DSLR or mirrorless camera in Manual mode. Students wishing to use HCP Digital Lab computers must be Mac OS proficient. PC users are strongly encouraged to bring their personal laptops installed with the latest version of Adobe Lightroom Classic to class.

Course Prep: 

Students need to bring their DSLR or mirrorless cameras as well as a flash drive or hard drive to the first class. An Adobe Lightroom Classic subscription is highly recommended.
