Sebastien Boncy

Born and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Sebastien Boncy has called Houston home since the late nineties. He received his BFA from the University of Houston and his MFA in photography from the University of North Texas. Boncy’s practice consists of peripatetic photography and the publication of photobooks and zines. He has taught classes, held talks, and exhibited artworks at the University of Houston (UH), Lone Star College, Art Institute of Houston, Sam Houston, Project Row House, Houston Community College (HCC), Oak Cliff Cultural Center, San Jacinto College, and Flats. His reviews and essays have been published in Glasstire, Not That But This, Sugar and Rice, Found Me, Art + Culture, and Fototazo. 

Over the past decade, Boncy maintained a hyperlocal practice centered around an online photographic archive of the city titled Purple Time Space Swamp (PTSS). PTSS is a commons – none of the images are copyrighted and they are distributed to any member of the public upon request.
