Join us at Houston Center for Photography with artists Liz Hingley and Frank Menger for a presentation of The SIM Project and launch of The SIMPOD - a bespoke new camera/dark room system.
The SIM Project gives tangible meaning to people’s virtual networks through the creation of unique artifacts, that explore how the images we create and exchange through our smartphones map our place in the world. It focuses on the SIM card as a tool that provides a portable sense of belonging.
The artists will discuss the conceptual and technical evolution of the project over seven years through experimentation with analogue and digital photography processes, 3D printing and jewelry making. They will share some of the stories that participants have contributed to the project in the form of wearable glass and metal artifacts made in workshops in 6 countries across Europe, as well as the plans for the Houston edition of the project.
