The future of photography is no longer defined by the medium itself, but also by AI technologies. AI image generators have internalized the photographic visual language and can generate it synthetically as "promptography". What does this mean for the relationship between photography and promptography? Which skills do I need as a photographer, which as a promptographer? Where do the two complement each other, and where do they compete? Boris Eldagsen analyses a relationship that most people describe as "it's complicated" and shows where this relationship can develop in the future. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with Eldagsen in a Q&A session following his comprehensive lecture.

Boris Eldagsen (*1970) studied fine arts at art academies in Mainz, Prague, and Hyderabad and philosophy at the universities of Cologne and Mainz. His background as a university lecturer, photo artist, and digital media freelancer makes him one of the AI experts in the German photo scene. He is the "Head of Digital" of the DFA and a member of the DGPh.

In April 2023, Eldagsen turned down the Sony World Photography Awards (Open Category /Creative) and admitted that he had applied with an AI-generated image to initiate a debate about the relationship between AI-generated images and photography. The stunt became worldwide news and his image THE ELECTRICIAN one of the most famous of the year.
